WSU-LQT BBUS Students Experience Pickleball
On October 25, 2024, LQT Bachelor of Business students participated in a Pickleball foundation class under the guidance of a professional coach.
The Origin of Pickleball
The sport of Pickleball was founded in 1965 and quickly became a sporting phenomenon in the United States. Joel Pritchard, a former US Congressman, and his two friends Bill Bell and Barney McCallum created this game.
The name “pickleball” originated from an interesting situation. According to Joel Pritchard, while playing this game, his dog, named “Pickle”, took the ball and ran away. After that incident, the three founders decided to name the game “Pickle’s ball”. Eventually, the name was shortened to “pickleball” and became the official name of the sport.

Pickleball’s Features
Pickleball can be played indoors or outdoors, with two forms of competition: singles (two players) and doubles (four players) on a rectangular court. Players use a flat racket to hit a hollow, plastic ball with holes, over a 0.86 m high net. Basically, pickleball is a combination of tennis, table tennis and badminton. The playing field is similar in size to a badminton court, while the racket is larger than a table tennis racket but smaller than a tennis racket, and the ball is lighter than a tennis ball.

WSU-LQT BBUS Students Participate in a Practical Class
During the class, students were introduced to how to hold the racket, the proper hitting stance, and the basic rules of the sport. Although Pickleball is quite new to many students, with a background in sports such as tennis, badminton, and table tennis, many students quickly adapted and confidently participated.

Building a WSU-LQT BBUS student community passionate about sports
The LQT Bachelor of Business program not only focuses on imparting professional knowledge but also wants to provide students with a space for communication and physical development. Through this, Dr. Qui Trung, the program’s founder, hopes that the sports group will become a place for students to build meaningful social relationships. Through sports activities, students will have the opportunity to meet, exchange and learn from each other, thereby not only improving communication skills but also creating a support network in study and life.
In addition, Dr. Ly Qui Trung also emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He believes that sports not only help improve physical health but also train the spirit of perseverance and endurance. Sports activities will help students relieve stress and contribute to developing teamwork skills, thereby creating a positive learning environment.

Ending
Dr. Ly Qui Trung hopes that through sports activities, students can simultaneously improve their health and create memorable memories during their student life. He believes that these relationships and experiences will bring lasting value, helping students develop together and conquer great goals.
